Hi everybody out there,
in the past months I played around with nimrod and I really become a fan of it. Now I am thinking about how to help to make this language a success. From the activity in this forum it is clear, that there are only some early adopters around. But this is far from enough to make it fly. So now I want to initiate a discussion about how to help to spread the word. I was already thinking about to write a book - but at the current state it will be outdated when the ink is dried. So what do YOU think ?
cheers,
Adrian.
The language is almost completely finished in my head ;-) and I will write a book some day. You're of course allowed to write a book about it before I do if I can review it before it goes to print.
For a start it would help if you could do some marketing and participate in discussions about it.
Portability on mobile devices is more or less guaranteed since all platforms support C code, and that's what nimrod generates. You can see an initial setup for ios/android in the examples folder https://github.com/Araq/Nimrod/tree/master/examples/cross_calculator.
No true easy direct integration with objc/java yet, but at least it runs.
I'm preparing a blog, but writing good blog articles is more work than fixing bugs or implementing new features, so it always feels like a bad tradeoff. And indeed I'm not on Facebook or Google+, the internet is distracting enough already. ;-)
Issue 9 has Robe Pike behind it, D has Walter Bright and Andrei Alexandrescu, Nimrod has some random stranger nobody has ever heard of. Live with it. That doesn't mean I'm a bad dictator. ;-)
Oh no! You have no beard ? Nimrod is doomed :P
btw, I'm a newcomer who loves this language at first sight. I have not done anything with it yet but it looks like it is my dream language so far :)
Will there be a publicly available video of your talk?
I asked them on twitter and they said that they are not sure yet: https://twitter.com/emerginglangs/status/335484998775873536
Will there be a publicly available video of your talk?
The chance for that is very good. But in the worst case I will post the slides here.

You should post the slides after the conference regardless of whether a video is released or not :)
