6754 :: How to achieve better performance with arc GC?

  I've been experimenting a bit with the different GC's offered by Nim.

  From what I've seen so far, "arc" works far better for me, compared to the other ones.

  The question is: what should I focus on in case I want even better performance? Is there any way I can intervene in how it handles the Garbage Collection? Anything to avoid?

  In no particular order:

  • Compile with Nim devel, check its cursor inference optimizer does its job (though it's work-in-progress)
  • Compile with --panics:on -d:danger and with link-time optimization.
  • Use lent, sink, cursor and acyclic annotations.
  • Run a profiler.
  • Use https://github.com/nim-lang/fusion/blob/master/src/fusion/pools.nim
  • Use arraymancer and other ultra-high-performance packages.
