I want to say that... The rabbinic writings derived the name Nimrod from the Hebrew verb ma·radhʹ, meaning “rebel.” Thus, the Babylonian Talmud (Erubin 53a) states: “Why, then, was he called Nimrod? Because he stirred up the whole world to rebel (himrid) against His [God’s] sovereignty.”—Encyclopedia of Biblical Interpretation, by Menahem M. Kasher, Vol. II, 1955, p. 79.

So Nimrod means "rebel"
Pretty amused to find a link to jehovas witnesses watchtower online here.
That said, I fail to find a reference to nimrod or the cited text at all on the linked page.
I guess this is a better link to follow for the topic at hand:
http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200003259?q=nimrod&p=par#h=2
Which basically says that "Nimrod" was the first king after the flood and opposed god. Which is a good attitude in my eyes as god just nearly extinguished all animals (what if Noah would have failed?) and committed the biggest genocide of all times. All of this because his co-workers (angels) did not listen to him either and made him pretty angry at his creation.
I already said amusing didn't I :)
Notice that the link redirects ... apparently avv's link is bad.
avv: But it is not very good.
What isn't very good?
