7834 :: Preferred mingw version to build nim on Windows

  Hi,

  looking at the nightlies build scripts, I noticed that a particular version of nimgw is selected.

  • The nim-lang website gives this mingw64.7z: v9.2.0 it seems it is the latest stable build
  • The build script gives this deps.sh#L85 : v6.3.0.7, it was fixed to this version at some point in time

  Maybe the build script needs a version bump, or is it the prefered version to build nim.exe on windows ?

  The same question applies to DLL dependencies I guess, and it looks pretty good, in deps#L86 windeps.zip:

  • libcrypto/libssl = OpenSSL 1.1.1k, the latest version today
  • sqlite3: 3.31.1 (vs 3.35.5 it's close to current)

  It seems that libs from http://winlibs.com renew more frequently - more than once in half-year vs once in 5 year (TDM) and that means more modern cpu instructions and OS system intrinsics.
