Lua seems to be the second most portable and uniform scripting language behind JavaScript, so I was wondering if anyone has written a backend for it yet. I think I saw a Python one once but not a Lua one. My specific use case would be the REAPER DAW, which has support for Lua scripting, and I'm sure there are other domains where Lua is useful.

Well, there's no Python backend for Nim either, maybe you've mistaken a python-nim bridge (nimpy) or something else with it.

Found the python backend, it was this https://github.com/juancarlospaco/nim-new-backend. Still requires patching the compiler and calling nim js though

Actually you can use the compiler as a library, use the APIs from passes.nim to define a new backend pass and don't have to patch the compiler at all.
