In the overall google forum is a better software, used by large communities that makes easier to keep discussions organized, attracts newcomers to participate and keep up with active threads. I don't see a reason to prefer the current forum other than "i'm used to pain". And, if that is a reason, then it is to keep using old languages instead of new blood like nimrod.
It is more practical, more organized and more elegant. Except for efficient, this forum itself contradicts nimrod's mantra "expressive, efficient, elegant". It is not like is hard to register a new forum and join it. And certainly google forum is not "complex".
"i'm used to pain"
Do you really feel pain using this forum? It's hard to imagine.
contradicts nimrod's mantra "expressive, efficient, elegant"
It expresses questions and answers ideally, it's maximally efficient and It's really elegant (as opposed to Google's one). And it has nothing superfluous, users just get what they need - it is practical.
It is more practical, more organized and more elegant
"more elegant" means that you like it? "practical" in what (besides the search)?
attracts newcomers
Yeah. And alienate existing users.
I don't see a reason
Nimrod users like it - is it not enough reason? And it can be extended in whatever way if somebody here wants to (as opposed to Google's).
is a better software
It will improve discussions here? I see you like it, it's OK, but it doesn't mean that's a better software, and for all occasions.
It is not like is hard to register a new forum
If I don't use cellular communications? Should I buy a cell phone and a SIM card just to make Google happy?
used by large communities
And what? Let large communities use it.
Clearly your behavior is not good to promote Nimrod or any other developing technologies. If you're used to what market says, so be it. Don't take us to your path. We want to build something better than existing technologies, and we're developing.
And, if that is a reason, then it is to keep using old languages instead of new blood like nimrod.
You're contradicting yourself with this statement. Do you think when google forums just emerge everybody uses it immediately?
Except for efficient, this forum itself contradicts nimrod's mantra "expressive, efficient, elegant"
More expressive? What features do you want from the forum? I don't think we need subforum yet, but if required it can be implemented rather easily. A single column can be added to the database definition. More efficient? It uses AJAX A LOT and it's damn slower, not to mention the bandwidth eaten. More elegant? To me, elegant is functioning properly as required without too much hassle or glitch, and this forum fulfills it.
And certainly google forum is not "complex".
Is this forum complex? How many links you have to press in order to write a post? Do you need to have a google account to register here? Your definition of "complex" needs to be reinterpreted.
Google groups is one of the worst web "apps" I have ever used. It always seems like my rather high end computer can not quite manage to render those pages without huffing and puffing and pageing.
I think google groups is popular because they provided a transition from usenet as ISPs stopped provideing reliable usernet servers.
