13185 :: Thread start/shutdown hooks?

  As of my knowledge, there is no way to automatically execute some code on non-main thread start / shutdown. While the start part isn't that bad --- I can just check some init threadvar flag --- the shutdown part is annoying, as the user needs to manually call cleanup function. Is there any workaround (not involving shared resources in place of threadvars)?
