  It's generally better to think "how do I do X in Nim" instead of "how do I translate this arcane uppercased code from 1990 to Nim".

  It's also worth noting that if there's a C or C++ library you want to use (either OS libraries like those, or a 3rd party library), it's very easy to interface with it. You can find information on importing C functions here https://nim-lang.org/docs/backends.html
